Biography of Lenore

Lenore Smith was born the 25th of October 1958 in Balmain, Sydney.
She has a sister, Linda, who is 1 year younger, and a brother, Neil, who is 8 or 9 years younger.
Lenore is about 166 cm and has dark brown hair and green eyes.

When Lenore was seventeen, she studied economics, but after her teacher told her that there was so little work in this section, she went to take a course at the Sydney Ensemble Studios. After two and a half years of training, she got her first major role in The Restless Years as Diane Archer from 1978 till 1980. She played some minor guest roles and did some commercials afterwards.
Lenore left to her sister in London (who worked there) on a holiday, but stayed for over a year. She worked as a waitress. Then one day she got a telegram from her agent in Australia: asking her to come over to audition for the role of Kate Wellings in The Flying Doctors. Lenore got the part and played Kate for over six years. She became really famous for the part in Australia and abroad.

Lenore was married three times: in 1981 with actor Gary Sweet. They met while waiting for the elevator at the broadcast company where they both worked for different series (according to the book The Inside Story by James Oram). Their marriage lasted only 18 months. In 1985 Lenore married actor Matt Kay. They met in the streets of Sydney after a bomb alarm at the premiere of Cats. They were married for five years, but then they announced they would go their separate ways but still be good friends. The 19th of October 1997 Lenore married actor Warren Jones. Lenore and Warren are still married and live in Sydney.

Lenore and Christopher Stollery met when they both starred in Flying Doctors. They became very close friends and soon afterwards they started a relationship. Lenore and Chris lived together in Sydney for a couple of years. They broke up in 1993 and went their separate ways with different partners. They are still good friends.

Lenore played several parts on television and on stage and even hosted a television show (see Filmography). She has won several awards for her acting.
We haven't seen a lot from her the last couple of years. Her career took a turn and she is working as a personal assistant now. But she still does some acting work on stage now and then. Let’s hope we’ll see her once again on television or on stage soon!
