Everything you always wanted to know about The Flying Doctors. Dedicated to Lenore Smith and Christopher Stollery.

Fan club day Nijmegen, March, 12, 2005

The second fan club day of the new fan club! This time I didn't have to travel early in the morning, because I could stay with my boyfriend who lives in Nijmegen. With a group of fans we made a deal to meet each other at the station. When I arrived, most fans were already there. We waited for the train from the north of the Netherlands and then we all walked to the Kolpinghuis.

This time it was definitely more crowded than last year! No surprise, as The Flying Doctors were on TV again and many re-newed fans were welcomed because of that. I decided to buy some pictures first. There were many pictures: screenshots and new pictures of the actors. I only bought the ones of Lenore, Christopher and Robert, but now I wish I had bought them all! Next time better... I talked with some "old" and "new" friends who I met via my site and e-mail. I admired Roos' book of The Inside Story: she was so lucky to bought it via the internet!

The fan club day started with Anouk, who told us about her meetings with some actors last year when she was in Australia. She met George (D.J.), Terry (Jack), Val (Nancy) and Robert (Geoff). Great stories and also a bit sad: Val was still so impressed by the loss of her husband Maurie (Vic). I really liked Anouk's story about meeting Robert! She met him in Perth, when he was playing there in We will rock you. It was a bit simular to my meeting with Robert, although she was so lucky to met him twice and even got the chance to sit next to him in his car! It turned out she advised Robert to visit Maastricht once, if he would visit the Netherlands again and I advised him the same thing only six months later! He then said to me that he heard this advice before from a Dutch girl, but then I didn't know he meant Anouk of course.

There was a break and during that time we filled in some questions about the series. This was because of a quiz later on that day. We watched the episode Broken Airwaves. A bit of a pity, as I actually wanted to see Being Positive, which I had never seen before. But well, the majority wanted to see Broken Airwaves. Three candidates were called up front to join the quiz. Not me. I knew almost all the questions, such a shame! Next year I really hope to join the quiz. All prices had something to do with the play in which George starred. We then saw lots of scenes which starred our favourite actors. Andrew (still very young), Brett, Nikki, Peter, Lewis, Sophie and the tape Lenore and Christopher made for the reunion in 2000. That was a very nice tape and I enjoyed it very much!

During the whole day there was a girl who was filming. She was making a documentary about being a fan and the difference between dream and reality of being a fan. Very interesting project, I thought.

Time to go then. Unfortunately I had to catch a train, so I couldn't come with a group who went for dinner first. I thought it was a great day! Of course there were some little problems, but they couldn't really bother me. Next year, be there!
